Text to sign in

Signing in

Tap Text to sign in, send the message your phone opens, and say yes when we text back. If you've texted us before, you can ask for a 6-digit code instead.

There’s no password. You sign in with your phone.

  1. On the sign-in page, tap Text to sign in. Your phone opens a new message to +1 (856) 563-4805 with a code already written in (it looks like “Sign in code K7Q-4821”). Send it.
  2. We text back to check it’s you, naming the browser that’s waiting: Was that you signing in to Tack on Chrome on Mac? Just say yes within 5 minutes if so. If it wasn’t you, ignore this and nobody gets in.
  3. Say yes (“yep”, “that was me” and “sí” work too). The page signs you in.

On a computer? The page shows the message and the number, so you can send it from your phone.

Say no instead and nothing is signed in. If you don’t answer within 5 minutes, the sign-in is dropped; tap Start over for a new code. The code itself also works once and expires after 10 minutes.

Why the extra yes? Someone could send you a link that opens a message with their sign-in code in it. If you sent it, they’d be signed in to your account. The yes step shows you which browser is asking, so you can ignore requests you didn’t start.

New here? After you say yes, you fill in a one-minute profile. Already set up? You go straight to your account.

You stay signed in on that browser for 30 days.

Tack only texts people who have texted it first, so this works once you’ve texted us at least once. Tap Texted us before? Get a code instead. Then:

  1. Enter your mobile number. US numbers only.
  2. Tap Send code. We text you a 6-digit code from +1 (856) 563-4805.
  3. Type the code and tap Sign in.

About the code:

  • It works once and expires after 10 minutes.
  • You get 5 tries. After that, tap Resend code for a new one.
  • Asking for a new code cancels the old one. You can resend after 30 seconds.
  • If you ask for a lot of codes in a row, we make you wait a few minutes. That stops people from flooding someone else’s phone.

If the code doesn’t arrive in about 15 seconds, or we can’t text your number, the page offers Text us to sign in instead.

You text a regular phone number. On iPhone, iPad and Mac it goes by iMessage; on Android it’s a normal text message (SMS). Message and data rates may apply.

Ignore it. Nobody can sign in without the code, and it expires on its own in 10 minutes.

The same goes for a Was that you signing in to Tack? text you didn’t expect: don’t say yes. Nothing happens unless you do.

The text above Text to sign in (and above Send code) says what you agree to by tapping it: the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, that you’re 18 or older, and that we can message you about your account and your requests. Reply STOP in the thread any time to stop messages.
