Using it in a group chat
Add Tack to your crew's iMessage group so anyone there can ask about today's jobs and addresses, while only you and your team can change anything. How to add it, how people talk to it, what everyone can see, and how to mute or remove it.
Your crew probably already has a group text. Add Tack to it and everyone in the chat can ask it things, even people who don’t have an account: “what’s the address for today’s job?”, “what’s on tomorrow?”. Only you and your team can change anything in your tools, and you decide what everyone else can see.
Group chats work on iMessage. WhatsApp doesn’t allow assistants in groups.
Add it to a group
Section titled “Add it to a group”- In Messages, add Tack’s address to your existing group, the same way you’d add a person.
- Tack texts you, in your own chat with it: “You added me to a group called “Garcia crew” with 5 people. Want me to work in it? Only you and your team can change anything there.“
- Say yes. Then it posts one short hello in the group explaining how to talk to it, and that you decide what it can share.
Until you say yes, it stays completely quiet in the group. You can also turn a group on from the dashboard, under Settings → Group chats.
Whoever adds it, and has an account, owns the group. If nobody in the group has an account yet, it says once that someone needs one, and then stays quiet.
Talking to it in the group
Section titled “Talking to it in the group”It only answers when someone talks to it. It never chimes in on its own. A message counts when it:
- mentions its name: “Tack, what’s the address for the Garcia job?”
- is an inline reply to one of its messages (press and hold its message, then Reply)
- answers a question it just asked you, right after it asked, in words or with a 👍 or 👎
Several texts in a row from the same person are read together, and two people asking at once each get their own answer. Replies are short, and go to the person who asked.
Who can do what
Section titled “Who can do what”| Who | What they can do |
|---|---|
| You (the owner) | Everything you can do in your own chat, with your own access. |
| Your team (people on your account) | Ask and change things with their own access, exactly what they could do in their own chat. Confirmations (“Should I send invoice #1041 to Garcia for $850?”) go to them in the group, and only their own yes counts. |
| Everyone else (no account, or someone from another company) | Ask read-only questions about what you share in that group. They can’t create, change or send anything. |
By default, everyone in a group can ask about:
- Jobs and the schedule: today’s and upcoming jobs, visits and work orders
- Job and client addresses
Not shared until you turn them on:
- Invoice and payment status (“is Garcia paid?”)
- Job photos
- Your calendar
Change it by text in your own chat with Tack:
in the crew chat, let everyone see invoice status
stop sharing addresses in Garcia crew
what group chats are you in?
Or tick the boxes for each group in the dashboard, under Settings → Group chats.
Privacy
Section titled “Privacy”- In a group, Tack only uses that group’s own messages. Nothing from your private chat, and nothing it remembers about you, ever comes up there.
- It never shows data from a tool the person asking can’t use. A teammate only gets answers from the tools you’ve given them access to.
- It never sends sign-in or connect links in a group. If a tool needs reconnecting, it says so, and you do it from the dashboard.
- People in the group who don’t have an account are never texted on their own.
- Your billing and account messages never go to a group.
Mute or remove it
Section titled “Mute or remove it”- Mute: text “stay quiet in the crew chat”, or use Mute in the dashboard. Unmute the same way.
- Remove: use Remove in the dashboard. On setups that can’t leave a group chat, Tack stays in the group but is muted for good, so it never answers there again. You can also remove it yourself in Messages.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Inline replies, tapbacks and the typing bubble from Tack need a feature that isn’t on every setup. Without it, Tack starts its answer with the person’s name so it’s clear who it’s for. Everything else works the same.
