DocuSign: what the assistant can do

Everything the assistant can do in DocuSign by text: 9 actions, with example texts, the DocuSign API call behind each one, and which ones ask first or can be undone.

In DocuSign, the assistant can list templates, send for signature, send a document you text, save a document as a template, check signature status, void an envelope, resend a reminder, see what’s waiting and get the signed copy. You ask by text, in your own words.

Status: Available. How to connect, permissions and limits: DocuSign.

Asking first and undo follow the same rules for every tool: see Confirmations and undo.

Lists your DocuSign templates: the documents you can send for signature.

  • Asks before doing it? No. It only looks things up.
  • Can be undone? Nothing to undo: it doesn’t change anything.
  • DocuSign API call: GET /restapi/v2.1/accounts/{accountId}/templates
  • Action name: docusign.list_templates

Example texts:

  • “what docusign templates do I have”
  • “list my templates”
  • “which contracts can you send”

Sends a document from one of your templates to one person to sign.

  • Asks before doing it? Yes, always. You see exactly what will happen and say yes before it does it.
  • Can be undone? No. Sent items can’t be unsent, which is why it always asks first.
  • DocuSign API call: POST /restapi/v2.1/accounts/{accountId}/envelopes
  • Action name: docusign.send_from_template

Example texts:

Sends the PDF or photos of a document you text to one person to sign. They place their own signature, or get a signature and date box at the bottom of the last page if your account requires boxes; the preview says which.

  • Asks before doing it? Yes, always. You see exactly what will happen and say yes before it does it.
  • Can be undone? No. Sent items can’t be unsent, which is why it always asks first.
  • DocuSign API call: POST /restapi/v2.1/accounts/{accountId}/envelopes (documentBase64)
  • Action name: docusign.send_document

Example texts:

Saves the PDF or photos you text as a DocuSign template with one signer (Client, or the role you name), so you can send it by name later.

  • Asks before doing it? Usually not. It asks first if it isn’t sure what you meant, a name only roughly matches, or the request covers more than 5 records.
  • Can be undone? Yes. Text “undo” within 10 minutes.
  • DocuSign API call: POST /restapi/v2.1/accounts/{accountId}/templates
  • Action name: docusign.create_template

Example texts:

  • “[PDF] save this as a template called Service Agreement”
  • “[PDF] make this a DocuSign template, Lease Addendum, signer is the tenant”
  • “[3 photos] turn this into a template named Work Authorization”

Tells you whether a document was sent, opened, signed, declined or voided.

  • Asks before doing it? No. It only looks things up.
  • Can be undone? Nothing to undo: it doesn’t change anything.
  • DocuSign API call: GET /restapi/v2.1/accounts/{accountId}/envelopes/{envelopeId}
  • Action name: docusign.envelope_status

Example texts:

  • “did Jane sign?”
  • “has Dana signed the supply agreement yet”
  • “status of the Henderson contract”

Cancels a document that’s still out for signature.

  • Asks before doing it? Yes, always. You see exactly what will happen and say yes before it does it.
  • Can be undone? No. Change or remove it in the tool itself.
  • DocuSign API call: PUT /restapi/v2.1/accounts/{accountId}/envelopes/{envelopeId} (status: voided)
  • Action name: docusign.void_envelope

Example texts:

  • “void the Henderson contract”
  • “cancel the agreement I sent to Jane”
  • “void Dana’s supply agreement, wrong price”

Sends an unsigned document again, as a reminder to everyone who hasn’t signed.

  • Asks before doing it? Yes, always. You see exactly what will happen and say yes before it does it.
  • Can be undone? No. Sent items can’t be unsent, which is why it always asks first.
  • DocuSign API call: PUT /restapi/v2.1/accounts/{accountId}/envelopes/{envelopeId}?resend_envelope=true
  • Action name: docusign.resend

Example texts:

  • “resend the agreement to Jane”
  • “remind Dana to sign the supply agreement”
  • “send the Henderson contract again”

Lists everything still out for signature: what it is, who it’s waiting on, and when it went out.

  • Asks before doing it? No. It only looks things up.
  • Can be undone? Nothing to undo: it doesn’t change anything.
  • DocuSign API call: GET /restapi/v2.1/accounts/{accountId}/envelopes?status=sent,delivered
  • Action name: docusign.list_waiting

Example texts:

  • “what’s still out for signature?”
  • “who hasn’t signed yet”
  • “anything waiting on Garcia in docusign”

Texts you a link to the signed PDF of a finished envelope. The link works for 24 hours.

  • Asks before doing it? No. It only looks things up.
  • Can be undone? Nothing to undo: it doesn’t change anything.
  • DocuSign API call: GET /restapi/v2.1/accounts/{accountId}/envelopes/{envelopeId}/documents/combined
  • Action name: docusign.get_signed_document

Example texts:

  • “send me the signed garcia contract”
  • “can I get the signed copy of Jane’s listing agreement”
  • “text me the executed Henderson lease”

This list is generated from the code that runs each action, so it’s always current.
