Gmail

Send a short email from your own Gmail address by text, always after you confirm. Built, not open yet; each person connects their own Gmail.

Built, not open yetEmail

Built, not open yet. Everything on this page is built. You can connect Gmail once our Gmail app is approved and set up. Ask in your thread and we'll text you when it's ready.

Built, not open yet. Sending email from Gmail is built. You can connect Gmail once Google finishes verifying our app. Until then, ask in your thread and we’ll text you when it’s ready.

You text What happens
“Email sarah@example.com that we’re running 20 minutes late” Writes a short email from your words and sends it from your Gmail, after you confirm
“Send an email to dave@patelhomes.com saying the part came in, subject Part arrived” Same, with the subject you gave
“Email mike@acme.com the link https://example.com/warranty” Sends a short email with that link

Every email asks first. The assistant shows you who it’s going to and the subject, and sends only when you say yes. An email can’t be unsent, so there’s nothing to undo.

The email goes out from your own address, so replies come to your inbox, and it shows up in your Sent folder.

See the full list of what the assistant can do in Gmail, with example texts, the API call behind each action, and which ones ask first or can be undone.

  • A Gmail or Google Workspace account.
  • Any member of your Tack team can connect their own Gmail. Each person’s Gmail is personal: only they can send from it.
  1. Text “connect Gmail.” The assistant texts you a secure link. (It also sends one on its own the first time you ask it to email someone.)
  2. Tap the link. The page lists what each Google permission is for (see Permissions requested). Tap Agree and continue to Google.
  3. Sign in to Google and choose the account to send from.
  4. Leave the send email on your behalf box ticked and tap Continue. If it’s unticked, the connection doesn’t go through, because sending email is what Gmail is for. The calendar and Drive boxes are optional.
  5. You’re returned to Tack, and the assistant confirms in your thread.

You can also start from Connections in the account dashboard. The link works once and expires after 15 minutes.

Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive share one Google connection, so Google’s consent screen asks for all of these at once:

Permission Why
Send email on your behalf (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.send) Send the emails you ask for, after you confirm each one. It can’t read, search or delete your email
View and edit events on all your calendars (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events) Answer “what’s on my calendar”, find free time, and add, move or cancel the events you ask for (Google Calendar)
See, edit, create and delete only the specific Google Drive files you use with this app (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file) Save the photos and files you text in, organize and share them when you ask, and start and add notes to Google Docs there (Google Drive). It can’t see the rest of your Drive
Your email address and Google account ID (email, openid) Know which account is connected and which address your emails come from

Only send email is required. If you untick the calendar or Drive box, email still works, and the first time you ask for something on your calendar or in Drive the assistant texts you a link to allow it.

Before you go to Google, the connect page lists what each permission is for. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. See the privacy policy, section 5a.

If your Google Workspace admin blocks third-party apps, book a 15-minute setup call and invite them.

  • In your Google Account (anyone): go to myaccount.google.com/connections, select Tack and remove its access.
  • By text: text disconnect Gmail and say yes when the assistant asks. We tell Google to revoke our access and delete our stored tokens.
  • On the Tack website: go to Connections, open Manage connection next to Gmail and tap Disconnect. You can disconnect your own Gmail; owners and admins can disconnect anyone’s.

Emails already sent stay in your Sent folder.

  • Disconnecting (any of the ways above) revokes our access with Google and deletes the stored tokens right away. If you remove our access in your Google Account instead, we notice the next time we refresh the connection and delete the tokens within 7 days.
  • What stays after you disconnect: your activity history keeps a record of each action, so you can look back at what was done: for an email, the recipient, subject, text and time; for a calendar change, the event details; for Drive, the file and folder names and links. We don’t keep a copy of your mailbox, calendar or Drive.
  • To delete your activity history too, delete your account: on the account website, go to Settings and tap Delete my account, or email privacy@asktack.com. We text you to confirm, then delete your messages, activity history, connections and profile, except records we must keep by law (such as billing records). Backups are deleted within 30 days.

Emails you sent, events on your calendar and files in your Drive are yours and stay in your Google account. See the privacy policy, sections 4 and 5a.

  • Gmail is built but not open yet: you can’t connect it until Google verifies our app.
  • One recipient per email, plain text with an optional link. No attachments, CC or BCC.
  • Google ends the connection if you change your Google password or don’t use it for 6 months. If that happens, the assistant asks you to reconnect.
