# Housecall Pro

> Book and move jobs, add notes and charges, make estimates, and check today's schedule and who owes you in Housecall Pro by text. Beta; needs the Housecall Pro MAX plan and an admin's API key.

Status: Beta

**Beta.** It works today and is still being tested with early users. Tell us in your thread if something looks wrong.

## What the assistant can do

| You text | What happens in Housecall Pro |
|---|---|
| "Book the Garcias Wed 9am, water heater install, give it to Mike" | Creates the job at the customer's service address, scheduled and assigned to Mike |
| "Move the Garcia job to Thursday at 1" | Moves the job, keeping its length and techs |
| "Note on the Garcia job: gate code 4512" | Adds a private note to the job |
| "Add 2 hrs labor at $95 to the Henderson job" | Adds priced line items to the job (its invoice is built from them) |
| "Estimate for Sarah Lopez: 50 gal water heater $1450 plus haul away $75" | Creates an estimate; it isn't sent |
| "What's on tomorrow?" | Lists the scheduled jobs with times, customers and techs |
| "Who still owes me?" | Lists open invoices, oldest due first |
| "New customer Ana Garcia 512-555-0142" | Adds the customer |

You get a short reply saying what was done. Text **undo** within 10 minutes to take back a moved job, a note or added charges. **New customers, jobs and estimates can't be undone by text**, because Housecall Pro's API can't delete them; cancel or delete them in Housecall Pro. See [Confirmations and undo](https://asktack.com/docs/confirmations-and-undo/).

The assistant never texts or emails your customers from Housecall Pro: new and moved jobs don't notify the customer (your techs still get their schedule update), new customers start with notifications off, and estimates aren't sent.

See the [full list of what the assistant can do in Housecall Pro](https://asktack.com/docs/actions/housecall-pro/), with example texts, the API call behind each action, and which ones ask first or can be undone.

## Requirements

- **The Housecall Pro MAX plan.** Housecall Pro only gives API access to MAX accounts ([API overview](https://help.housecallpro.com/en/articles/8505035-api-overview)). On other plans the connect page refuses the key and says so.
- A Housecall Pro **admin** creates the API key.
- The Tack **owner or an admin** connects it. It's a company connection shared with the team.

## How to connect

1. In Housecall Pro, sign in as an admin and open **My Apps → All Apps → API Key Management**.
2. Tap **Generate API Key**, name it (for example "Tack") and choose **Full access**. A Read-only key can look things up but can't book jobs.
3. Text "connect Housecall Pro" (or tap **Connect** on the **Connections** tab of your [account dashboard](https://asktack.com/docs/account-dashboard/)). The assistant texts you a secure link.
4. Paste the key on that page. We check it with Housecall Pro before saving it, and store it encrypted.
5. On **Connections**, choose who on your team can use Housecall Pro under **Who can use it**.

## Permissions

Housecall Pro keys aren't fine-grained: a Full access key can do whatever the API allows in your account. The assistant uses it for:

| Access | Why |
|---|---|
| Customers (read and write) | Find customers and add new ones |
| Jobs, schedules, notes and line items (read and write) | Book, move and annotate jobs and add charges |
| Estimates (write) | Create estimates |
| Employees and invoices (read) | Assign the right tech and list who owes you |

## Using Jobber and Housecall Pro together

If both are connected and your text doesn't say which ("book Henderson Tues 2pm"), the assistant asks which one, then can remember your answer as your default. Saying "in HCP" or "in Jobber" skips the question.

If QuickBooks is connected too, "invoice the Garcia job $450" makes the invoice in QuickBooks.

## Disconnecting and revoking access

- **By text (owners and admins):** text **disconnect Housecall Pro** (or **disconnect HCP**) and say **yes** when the assistant asks. We delete the stored key right away.
- **On the Tack website (owners and admins):** go to **Connections**, open **Manage connection** next to Housecall Pro and tap **Disconnect**.
- The key itself keeps working until an admin deletes it in Housecall Pro: **API Key Management**, trash icon, confirm. Do that too when you disconnect.

Jobs, notes and customers the assistant created stay in Housecall Pro.

## Limits and known issues

- Housecall Pro's API can't mark a job **on my way, started or finished**, and can't **create or send invoices** or **send estimates**. Do those in the Housecall Pro app; the assistant says so when you ask.
- Jobs with several appointments (multi-day jobs) have to be moved in the app.
- Times are sent in UTC from your timezone in Tack. Make sure it matches your Housecall Pro company's timezone.
- Multi-location accounts use the location the key belongs to.
